
Joe Hughes
Joe has over 10 years paddling experience behind him, most of his training took place under one of the sports elite coaches Gordon Brown in the challenging waters around Skye, along with paddling around St Kilda, other locations paddled include the West coast of Nova Scotia Canada most of the West coast and some of the North East of Scotland. Joe is not long back from a 20-day expedition to Greenland.
In 2018, Joe undertook a community fundraising challenge to supply more public access defibrillators for the Isle of Islay, the challenge was to do a continuous circumnavigation of the Isle of Islay, he was assisted by fellow team members who are based on the mainland The first attempt took 20hrs with around 100k completed, but for safety concerns this was stopped, this was completed at the second attempt with 147km and 27 hours of paddling which raised over £13,000.00 for the community in which we have purchased a further 9 public access defibrillators for the island, Joe was joined by John Paschke from Ayr on the successful attempt.
Joe is also a current Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered paramedic with over 25 years front line accident and emergency experience which was one of the factors behind the fund raising for defibrillators, as well as carrying out training for the public, Joe is also one of our First Aid Trainers.
